There we were, cruising the last few hundred metres to our 2nd home in France after a 4-hour drive, when a fanged Beast straight from a horror movie came streaking out of the darkness and hit us Thump! A huge wild boar, which just kept running, less damaged than the car. We were driving a Smart, just temporarily, and the poor little thing bounced off the boar, and limped home with its front dangling off. Michael had to cut off chunks with the gardening shears so he could drive it to the local garage next morning, instead of to England. Totally unpredictable!

Les sangliers prolifèrent et causent de terribles accidents partout. Et, en effet, la plupart du temps, eux, ils s’en sortent; plus ou moins bien d’ailleurs. J’en ai souvent retrouvés morts ensuite en forêt, n’ayant visiblement pas été tués par des chasseurs, mais avec des marques de gros chocs sur les flancs. Les rencontrer vivants à cheval est une terreur, (et toujours pas très rassurant quand ils sont morts avec l’air d’être tapis prêts à bondir). L’expérience prouve que les rencontrer en voiture en est une autre, même pour de grosses cylindrées. Pauvre petite Smart, elle s’est quand même bien défendue! Bravo à elle et à son chauffeur!
